Bear Spray
Although the California state flag shows an image of a Grizzly Bear, we no longer need to worry about them - as the pioneers managed to kill them all off in the golden state ages ago. Large curious black bears are what we have left and they will go after almost anything with a scent. So please remember a simple rule: no food, snacks, drinks, toothpaste, deodorant, wet wipes or lip balm inside your tent. If the beast does come crashing thru your zippers at 3 a.m., you will at least have your handy bear mace ready.
