When you camp a lot in the mountains, you know the nights can get pretty dang chilly most of the year. The higher the elevation the more extreme the temperature drop. After the campfire warmth has worn off, make sure your gear is gonna keep you warm. Be prepared with a 0 degree sleeping bag and an insulating sleeping pad. Extra wool blankets wouldn't hurt either. Wool underneath you, down comforter on top. Now you're talking.

Eastern Sierra Autumn lows with 18 degree nights can be harsh, no matter how you look at it. Anza Borrego Desert low temperatures get into the teens too. California is the land of extremes so plan accordingly!
